When Your Labs Are Normal but You Still Feel Off

I’m Beth Panoff, FNP-C, a nurse practitioner specializing in longevity medicine. Many women come to me after being told that their labs are normal, even though they still feel tired, foggy, inflamed, weak, wired, flat, or unlike themselves.

Normal is not the full conversation

Standard labs are useful, but they do not always explain what is happening. Sometimes the issue is not one dramatic abnormal result. It is a pattern across hormones, glucose, inflammation, nutrients, gut health, lipids, stress physiology, or body composition.

I do not want to ignore normal labs. I want to interpret them in the context of the person in front of me.

Patterns matter

A woman’s symptoms, history, medications, sleep, menstrual or menopause transition, strength, waist change, glucose response, lipids, inflammatory markers, thyroid pattern, and gut symptoms may point us toward what is actually driving the problem.

Testing should answer a question

Deeper testing is not about ordering everything. It is about choosing the right next layer when symptoms and basic labs do not match the person’s experience.

Next step

If you feel dismissed by “normal labs” but know something is off, a Comprehensive Consultation is the place to start: https://www.arcadia-institute.com.
